Dr. Christina Wells - First Vice President

Dear Members of the Leadership Development Committee:

I have had the pleasure of being an IAFP Board member for more than five years. During this time, I have consistently brought fresh ideas, a diverse perspective, and a strong commitment to advancing and strengthening the Academy’s advocacy efforts. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with fellow leaders to help IAFP advance its mission, which has also contributed to my own professional growth and development. As First Vice President, I am committed to continuing the work of the Academy by upholding the organization’s core values and expanding its impact across the state and beyond.

My involvement in IAFP has included service on the CME Committee and IVAC, where I contributed to the Beyond the Needle podcast series as both a speaker and organizer, helping to bring expert voices to share timely information on COVID-19. I have also developed and presented multiple KSAs. Currently I’m working to develop and host the Academy’s first podcast series to provide a platform for interactive discussion of current issues important to family medicine physicians. With a strong passion for education, I am dedicated to ensuring IAFP remains a leader in delivering high-quality programming in formats that are consistently adapting to the needs of its members. On the advocacy front, I’ve proudly represented family physicians on Capitol Hill, lending my voice alongside colleagues to advance policy on issues that matter deeply to our practices and patients. I remain committed to promoting reforms that strengthen primary care and support the future of family medicine.

As leader of the Lifestyle Medicine Member Interest Group, I’ve worked to raise awareness about the role of lifestyle medicine in managing chronic disease and helped secure funding for IAFP’s first-ever community project focused on lifestyle medicine, chronic disease, and health equity. I also organized and presented in IAFP’s inaugural Obesity Medicine Conference.

I gained a deeper understanding of the Academy’s fiscal responsibilities while serving as Treasurer. I’m now serving on the AAFP Commission on Finance and Insurance, allowing me to have a broader understanding of the fiscal state of IAFP’s parent organization.

If elected First Vice President, I will continue to champion education, advocacy, and equity—ensuring IAFP remains a dynamic, inclusive organization that meets the evolving needs of family physicians and the communities we serve.
