14th Annual Scholarly Works Virtual Summit

The Scholarly Works Virtual Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Illinois Family Medicine Residents are invited to present at a statewide, online forum. You must apply by Monday, May 4, 2026.

This is an excellent way to fulfill your scholarly activity requirements for residency graduation. There will be separate categories for completed and ongoing research. The highest-scoring presentation in each category will win a $100 Amazon Gift Card and bragging rights! All IAFP members are encouraged to log in, watch, support their residents, and earn CME credits.

About the Scholarly Works Virtual Summit

To be considered a Completed Project, your presentation should include the following: background on your topic, a clinical question and hypothesis, a discussion of methodology and/or intervention, and a discussion of results. Educational project submissions should include a background, educational aims, a needs assessment (both a general literature review and a targeted needs assessment), learner objectives, a discussion of format and methods, a description of the curriculum, and a discussion of evaluation results.

Research in Progress
presentations do not need to include final analysis or results. However, the participant should be able to discuss other components of the project and the plan for the remainder of the project. Educational projects in progress should include a needs assessment (at least a general literature review and a targeted needs assessment), learner objectives, and a discussion of completed or planned format methods, along with a description of the curriculum and planned evaluation methods if these are not yet completed.

* Presentations are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes and 25 slides. (They can be shorter.)

* Presentation time slots will be sent only to the LEAD presenter during the week of May 5. The lead presenter must reply to accept that slot or request a different time if needed (and also inform all co-presenters directly).

* All presentations (PowerPoint or Google Slides) and headshot photos must be submitted by May 15 for review, or you will not be allowed to present. You may update your presentation for May 21 if needed.

Presenters are scored on
:
1) The quality of their research design: note for educational project design-clear learner objectives, solid data for general and/or targeted needs assessments, curriculum design description, documented or planned evaluation strategies. (Note: check the Research-in-progress checkbox for educational work in progress).
2) The quality of their slides.
3) The relevance to family medicine.
4) Their verbal presentation.
5) Their responses to questions. For an in-progress educational project, a demonstrated commitment to the project is essential. Is this educational effort on track to deliver meaningful outcomes that benefit clinical learners in family medicine?
