IAFP In the News -Virus Season

IAFP Members provided ongoing guidance and trusted information throughout the respiratory virus season

IAFP First Vice President Dr. Santina Wheat appeared on CBS2 Chicago 10pm News on February 24 discussing the measles outbreak in Texas and a reminder of who needs the vaccine.

Dr. Wheat appeared in a January 11 Chicago Tribune - Aurora Beacon News article about the spike in influenza cases they are seeing at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva.  Read it here. 

Dr. Wheat had a very busy stretch of media opportunities in her role as a family physician at Northwestern Medicine and the program director for the Northwestern Family Medicine Residency Program at Northwestern Delnor Hospital.

On December 26 she appeared live on WGN Radio talking about vaccines and which illnesses are trending (in the wrong way!) such as whooping cough, Covid and more. Listen here  

On December 27 she appeared on the NBC5 Chicago News on the 6 and 10 p.m. broadcasts talking about the illnesses on the rise in the holiday season.

On December 31 she was back to WGN Radio live with Lisa Dent with facts about Norovirus on the rise and that COVID is still here. 

And finally a conversation with WGN Radio’s John Williams on January 7 with more on RSV, the spread of Norovirus and other illnesses along with a reminder to vaccinate for those illnesses that have a vaccine. 

Mark Loafman, MD Chair of Family Medicine for Cook County Health was on NBC 5 4pm News on January 13 with important updates on Norovirus, RSV and more. 

Dr. Whitney Lyn & Dr. Mark Loafman, both with Cook County Health, were in a January 2 NBC5 Chicago News story about preventing norovirus spread.  

On December 30 Dr. Mark Loafman appeared on the NBC5 5pm news story with updates on the Norovirus and other winter illnesses.

November 20, 2024 - Dr. Christina Wells Live on ABC7 Chicago News at 11 a.m. talking about hygiene and other ways to prevent colds and flu.
