Dr. Vatti for New Physician Board Member

My Name is Nikhil Vatti, I am a Family Medicine/ Sports Medicine Physician working for Endeavor Health in Chicago, Illinois. I am writing this letter to express my interest in applying for the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) New Physician Board Position.

My interest in advocacy began as a Medical Student in California. I collaborated with the National Alliance on Mental Illness to support two Healthcare Bills in the California State Assembly. These bills focused on establishing the Mental Health Services Workforce Education and Training Account, which would provide more funding to recruit mental health professionals in rural California, and on mental health training for local Public Safety Dispatchers. This experience made me realize that grassroots advocacy, especially when led by Healthcare Professionals, can significantly impact patient care. As a member of the IAFP Board, I aim to continue advocating for high-quality patient care and physician needs, such as fair reimbursement for primary and preventive care services both locally and nationally. 

In addition to advocacy, I aim to build my career in Medical Education and train the next generation of Family Medicine Physicians. I serve as a University of Chicago Clinical Instructor for Medical Students, and in the past, I have educated Residents and Medical Students as a Chief Resident and Sports Medicine Fellow at Southern Illinois University. I intend to continue educating current and future Family Medicine Physicians on key topics in Primary Care and Sports Medicine through the development and promotion of high-quality CME that reflects the evolving medical landscape. Given the recent rapid changes in healthcare policies in the United States, I hope to encourage Physicians to actively participate in policy creation through advocacy that safeguards physicians' and patients’ well-being. As a member of the IAFP, I can take the first step in accepting responsibility as a Physician to promote Evidence-based Medicine and inspire other early-career Physicians like myself to do the same.
