Medical aid in dying is an established clinical practice that provides terminally ill adults the choice to control their end-of-life experience. Illinois’ End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (effective Sept. 2026), in alignment with other laws authorizing medical aid in dying in the US, establishes strict eligibility criteria, a clear multi-step request process, and practice requirements; all things physicians must understand to be compliant with the law.
